馃搱 A N A L Y S T

Hi everyone!
I am M陋 Dolores Minin Avil茅s and this week I am the analyst of ArchiTeachers!!
As it was our first task we were really excited and a little nervous because we did not know how it would be.
This week we had to build and create 5 conceptual pictures about education. From my point of view it was a very good way to know better what we, as group, think about education, and as future teachers is important to have a clear idea about this topic.
We decided to make our own pictures and it was a complicated task to us for the reason that we didn´t know very well how to modify them to create what we wanted. The only person that knew how to do it was Mar铆a del Mar, who guides us to create our "master pieces".
However we have worked very well as a group, because we all wanted to make something original and creative. Honestly I am really happy about the work of my team, we hadn´t work together before it is being a good experience since we are very motivated.
Even if it was an easy task, we had a good organization. Everyone knew what to do in every moment.
Definitely we have to improve with the use of ICT since we did not know how to create a blog and how to write on it. Furthermore we did not know how to use Twitter! It seems like we are elderly women... But we had never worked with it.
It has been a productive week because we have learned how to use apps to modify the pictures, how a blog works and how to cooperate with new people. Moreover we have learned that a picture may have a very deep meaning. And how to express our ideas using just a photo.
To sum up, we want to keep working like we have done this week because we have felt very comfortable with each other.
Thanks for reading!!
Have a nice week 馃懛馃敤

馃摉 T R A N S L A T O R

Hi workers! 馃敤馃懛  I am Carmen D铆az and this first week I am in charge of the translator role. We have been working on Conceptual photography, really interesting and challenging by the way.
My work consisted in gathering 5 terms that would be useful in order to understand our work.
Hint: a CONCEPTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY consists in a photograph which involves a whole and complex idea in it.

  • OVERWHELMED: when someone gets annoyed, upset, affected or devastated because they have too much work, or due to a difficult situation, feelings or any other reason.
In this case and task, overwhelmed is associated with schools in which teachers tend to send too much homework, tasks, or exams. Therefore students feel overwhelmed, becoming more easily bored and depressed due to schools' tasks.
  • ISOLATED: to be or feel alone or left behind.
We can link isolation with schools because many children feel solitary, perhaps because of bullying or family problems. This is a big problem which schools, families and most of the people are trying to solve each day, in spite of its difficulty.
  • BRAINSTORM: writing down ideas and sharing them. This ideas come from inspiration.
Brainstorm is very used in teaching students. It is a fun way of learning and participating in class, where students can share their ideas with the rest.
  • DIFFERENCES: something or someone which has other qualities, colors, shapes, appearances, and so on. It is not the same as others.
Differences are pivotal in schools. We have lots of differences, from different ways of thinking and solving problems to physical differences, such as sex, race, ethnicity or sexuality. Differences are common, and teachers, as everybody else, should learn how to deal with them and therefore treat everyone with the same criteria, being fair and ethical.
  •  TO JUDGE: criticizing someone or somebody without knowing anything but appearance.
Judging is very common in schools and everywhere around the world.
Children feel sad and inferior when they are judged, and even more if they are judged by their appearance. We should help children to be more open minded and to accept everyone despite their differences.

馃懛 T H E T A S K

In the first session we have reproduce an art exposition with the following pictures:

Overwhelmed by the School

This picture seems to be simple and without too much information to show but we are NOT going to JUDGE by the appearance.
The first thing to stand out is the hurricane and the scary face of the student. Hurricane represents the busy life of a primary student. When they arrive at home, they have to do many things such as maths´ exercises, studying for the science exam or even  make a ''piece of art'' for the art class. So, as it is easy to see, they have no free time to be spent doing other activities, sports, hobbies...
As a result, students tend to get locked and bored instead of enjoying the amazing and entertaining process of learning. Also, this situation is the possible answer to the question of ''Why students try not to go to school adding excuses, for instance?''.
Finally, school should change this overwhelmed situation in order to give them the possibility to demonstrate and discover their positive and hidden talents.

Isolation

In this picture, the main idea is isolation represented by the girl inside the glass bottle. Its main goal is to show how some people aren't able to be integrated in the group and, as a result, isolation appears. Sometimes, people used to judge others because they don't talk with others, for example, but we shouldn't do that as we don't know the possible causes of that behaviour or way of being. In the educational context, it is usually to see that for reasons as personality (shyness), groups already formed or even hidden problems this type of person need some help, as they by their own are incapable to reach integration. As a suggestion to avoid the feeling of being in a bubble apart from the world, teachers should encourage the idea of empathy and helping others.

Brainstorm Vs Standby

This photo can be funny because of the sperm, but just keep calm as it is a metaphor to represent the brainstorm transmitted by the teacher and reached by the student.
It is easy to appreciate two different kinds of students. Moreover the teaching and learning process is represented as the fecundation, where the knowledge is symbolized as sperm. The teacher spread the knowledge across the classroom and as, in the fecundation process,  when the knowledge arrives to the mind of the student, a new idea is born. Also, this contributes to the encouragement of the student's creativity and to give her a new point of view about the topic of the moment.
On the one hand, there is a student that is paying attention, in whose mind ideas are borning.
On the other hand there is a student that is not paying attention, she is thinking about other topics. In this case, there is no learning process, so not borning ideas.

Do differences matter?

In this photo we can see the differences in behavior shown by the teacher with her different students. The teacher is disparaging the student of the right because she has a different ethnicity or race; and nevertheless she please the student on the left for being of her same race. In that school a situation of injustice is shown. Architeachers want to highlight that we are all equal despite race, ethnic, ideology or even biological differences. Teachers and also students should take into account that with injustice they hurt other´s feelings and this is not fair. It would be a perfect idea to have a rubric to give an objective punctuation in some aspects as the part "ATTITUDE" in the assessment.

Feeling Observed

Firstly, we want to say that the eyes that appear in this photograph represent the people judging and seeing you. This photo shows two different types of people. On the one hand, the girl on the left represents a nerd by her physical appearance and talents shown. On the other hand, the girl on the right is a fat person. At first sight we judge them, and we should not do it. We do not know anything about them or about their lives. We are nobody to judge. Architeachers want to send a message to everyone: DO NOT JUDGE PEOPLE UNKNOWN!  Because sometimes, these kind of people really worth it, but we do not tend to give them opportunities or we do not leave them explain or try to integrate. We want to help children in changing this way of thinking and acting, brick by brick !

馃搨 F A C I L I T A T O R

Hi everyone!!馃檵

My name is Carmen Albaladejo and this week I have been the facilitator of ArchiTeachers.
In this first week I have been helped by my mates because at the beginning we were not sure about the task that involved each role. On the other hand, all of the members of the group are proactive so I do not needed to mandate a particular task to each of them.
During this week we prepared a task which consisted in thinking about five concepts related with education and once we had decided them, we selected photos from internet and we took our own photographs in order to represent these concepts; this is what we know as Conceptual Photography.

You can visit our post called " THE TASK" to see our work.

THANKS AND WE ARE WAITING FOR YOU NEXT WEEK.馃槉

馃摲 J O U R N A L I S T

Hello, my name is M陋 脕ngeles Alonso and this week I am the journalist.

The previous weekend we created our WhatsApp group and we decided what would be our pet group, so then, we worked hard in Manolo’s making-of and we created our fabulous blog.

On Monday we made a presentation of our group. In this presentation we talked about why we are together, which is our best and our worst academic point as well as our fears. In this day, we made an introduction of ourselves and we also introduced “Manolo”, our pet group. You can see him and our presentations in a post of our blog.

In the same day, our teacher Linda explained us, what would be our first task, which would be “Conceptual thinking” and how to do this task.

Firstly, we collected information relative to conceptual thinking because we knew what was it but we never imagine that one day we will need to work with this. The next thing we made was to find ideas that actually happen in the schools nowadays, we search in “Pinterest” and google images. We made a collection of ideas but the problem was that we only needed 5 of them so, what we made was to join the ideas in order to get only 5.

Tuesday was our strong day, because in the morning we decided how to do and take the pictures, we were looking for originality so we decided to be the models of the pictures, we also decided the first role of each one. In the evening we took the photos in different places of our University, it was really funny, but in my opinion the worst moment was when we edited the photos because the majority of us did not know how to use editing programs and that is the reason why we spend a lot of time to edit the pictures in order to make clear the meaning of them.

On Wednesday our teacher Linda explain again the different roles because some of us had several dudes about it, after that, our class was divided in groups without the Star, who was situated in a specific place to give clues for the group in order to hold a tittle for the pictures. Because of the time, we only could rotate two times. After this, each Star of the group had to explain the real significance of the pictures.

This week I would like to recommend you a fantastic blog called "Ms. Cassidy's Classroom Blog". In this blog, a teacher writes about their daily school life with her class, she post drawings made by her students and photos of their excursions, among other things.
Here you have got the link: http://mscassidysclass.edublogs.org/

I have also write a comment in Starfish's blog, you can see it in their blog and also I invite you to have a look in their blog.

Hey guys!
My name is Maria del Mar and this is week I'm going to be your super STAR 馃槉.
At the beginning, I thought that I would have to do a typical school exposition, so we made a Power Point and, also, printed our amazing pieces of art. Why a Power Point?, as it is very difficult to show a paper to the whole class, we considered a great idea to made a Power Point in order to make easier the exposition and, at the same time, the photos would be in the student's hands.
Nevertheless, there was a change and we have to recreate a real art gallery and, as I am the Star this week,  I had to stay next to my exposition to receive those people interested in it.
Linda gave us instructions to explain how the groups would rotate using our left hand as a point of reference.
Apart from joking , there were two groups who visited our art exposition. They had to guess the possible tittle of the masterpieces taking into account what they feel or the photographs transmit them. Then, they have to use a post-it where their suggestion should be written.

After the tour by the other expositions, my moment to shine like a proper star, arrived. At this time, I became a bit nervous but nothing excessive, as I have lots of loquacity and I love talking in public.
I love my model's face in this photo 馃槀
